Battle of the new signings

There were an array of new signings across the field for this enthralling fixture. For the Wanderers, the entire midfield of Jacob Pepper, Nichols and Dimas were debuting, with Neville making a maiden appearance in defence along with Piovaccari up front. The result points towards a lack of cohesion for the Wanderers, reinforcing the argument that it will take more time to gel, and while promising signs were shown by the likes of Nichols, Dimas failed to impress. However, time will tell how well they can truly play together.

Brisbane Roar only had two new signings, but they were oh so effective. At one end, as mentioned above, Maclaren was a thorn in the Wanderers side. In midfield, Corona proved that he can fill the Luke Brattan void, with a metronomic-styled passing game and an impressive level of fitness. With the return of captain Matt McKay, the Brisbane midfield has an ominous look, should injuries not affect the squad.
