Midfield three vital
The midfield trio of Blaise Matuidi, Thiago Motta and Marco Verratti, while probably not the most glamorous in world football, is a highly effective one. Verratti, who provided an assist to Di Maria for the first goal, has often been linked to Real Madrid lately and the Italian is of that calibre. Together with Matuidi, the two are efficient in both attack and defence and midfield anchor Motta provides extra cover across a back four that can sometimes have poor judgement coming out to attack an oncoming forward.
All highly technical players, the trio will be integral to successes in the future and with Javier Pastore and Adrien Rabiot waiting in the wings, they will have to be on their toes.
