Red Bulls dominate dour DC United

The first game of the MLS “Atlantic” playoff contest between DC United and the New York Red Bulls ended with a dominating 1-0 victory for the side from New York.

In truth, DC United have stuttered across the line in term of post-season classification. Having bested by New England 2-1 in a one-off knockout tie (despite an outstanding Juan Agudelo strike), Ben Olsen’s side entered in to the Semi-final as distinct underdogs to the impressive Red Bulls.

The manner of New York’s 1-0 victory, in a game where DC did not even muster a single shot on target, will have done little to change the opinion of many going in to the decisive second leg on the East coast.

However, Jesse Marsch’s side will be on guard as Dax McCarty’s solitary strike was only a minimal difference for the actual gulf seen between both sides throughout the campaign.
