Melbourne City’s attacking prowess flourished under little duress in a 5-1 victory against the Central Coast Mariners last night.

The visitors’ classy performance was typified in the execution of the goals scored at Central Coast Stadium. Bruno Fornaroli’s eighth of the season was sandwiched by Harry Novillo’s classy brace, while Stefan Mauk and Aaron Mooy added late goals of their own. Mariners attacker Mitch Austin gave the 4,514 in attendance something to cheer for, netting a late consolation goal.

A fit Harry Novillo is as effective as anyone in the A-League

Post-match, the Frenchman targeted the upcoming Melbourne Derby as the fixture in which he plans to reach his full fitness. His brace tonight, which quite possibly could have been a hat-trick after Paul Izzo could only parry a long range strike onto the post and back into the goalkeeper’s arms, proves that he may be on track to meet that goal.

Fornaroli’s most present quality has been his consistent goalscoring record. If not for injury earlier in the season, it is hard to argue against Novillo, who notched his fourth of the campaign, matching the exploits of his Uruguayan colleague.

The striker can be a real weapon for City en-route to finals football, and is developing a solid understanding with Mooy and Fornaroli to create a fearsome attack.
