West Ham emerged with a comfortable two goal victory over Newcastle at the Boleyn Ground on Monday night, courtesy of a brace from Frenchman Dimitri Payet.
The opening goal came only nine minutes into the contest when a fine strike from outside the penalty area flew past Magpies custodian Tim Krul. The Hammers’ lead was doubled shortly after the interval when a shot from Victor Moses cannoned of the upright and fell into the path of Payet, allowing him to calmly roll the ball into the back of the net.
It was a rather straightforward three points for the Londoners, with the Magpies providing little resistance and looking toothless all night.
