It has been 30 years since Watford last defeated Manchester United, and the class of 2016 have done it again.
Goals from Etienne Capoue, Juan Zuniga (just 55 seconds after coming on) and a late penalty to Troy Deeney sealed a 3-1 win over what was an incredibly sluggish United outfit.
Perhaps the most lacklustre of them all, United skipper Wayne Rooney was again underwhelming in midfield and endured a mountain of criticism on social media.
Should Mourinho bite the bullet and stop trying to accommodate the captain? The consensus on social media was a resounding YES.
Got stick from many as season started about Rooney, but if anyone thinks he’s worth his place in this #MUFC side they are deluded.

Rooney just can’t start anymore. This result wasn’t single-handedly his fault, but he creates more problems than solutions. A real hindrance

Van Gaal would have been battered for persisting with Rooney. Mourinho shouldn’t escape similar criticism.

Rooney’s delivery today has physically and emotionally hurt me.

Commentators keep saying Rooney’s passes and crosses are deep…I prefer to say massively and completely overhit.

Rooney needs to come off. This is embarassing.

There are a lot of things wrong with the team but accomodating Rooney is probably the biggest mistake of them all.
