3 – Season 2011-12 – Wellington Phoenix defeat Sydney FC 3-2 at Westpac Stadium

It was one of those weeks where things just did not go right for the Sydneysiders at all. Before the game, Liam Reddy was sent home for drinking and Ivan Necevski was forced to start in his place. He was called into action to make the one major save of the first half and the sides went in level.

Tim Brown wanted to extend his career by another week and did just that by opening the scoring shortly after the break. It stayed 1-0 until the 77th minute, but then things got more than a little crazy. Ben Sigmund put the Phoenix up 2-0 with a powerful header but Joel Chianese decided to get in on the action, scoring a brace for Sydney and making it 2-2 with eight minutes to play. The comeback would not be capped as Michael Beauchamp knocked over a bullocking Paul Ifill in the box before the striker put the home side back in front and sent it through to a minor semi-final against Perth, which they would lose in extra time, 3-2.
