Three key talking points – Perth Glory vs Sydney FC

Sydney FC travel to battling Perth Glory after their Big Blue loss last week, while Kenny Lowe’s side will be desperate to kick-start their season with three points. Here are three major talking points ahead of Saturday night’s clash.

Sydney to show their character

The loss to Melbourne Victory was a bitter blow for Sydney. Not only did it end their unbeaten streak this season, but it continued their wretched trend against Victory in recent years. Following a shock to the system, particularly in defence, it will be interesting to see how the side bounce back this weekend. Last season under Graham Arnold the Sky Blues exhibited strong character, which played a pivotal role in the squad charging to the Grand Final. Should Sydney look to repeat the feat they will need to respond this weekend and show against Glory that same mental resilience and determination they built in season 2014/15.

Perth’s forwards to step up?

Goals have been a significant issue for Glory since the departure of Andy Keogh at the end of last season, scoring just six and only half of those from their front line. At the same time last year the side had nearly double that tally, and sat atop the ladder  – albeit with a squad that breached the salary cap. One point off the bottom of the table Perth must see an improvement in their attacking tenacity and finishing, or go to market in January for an accomplished striker who can spearhead the attack and score goals.

Will Sydney’s unbeaten away form continue?

Sydney FC have now won an incredible 10 consecutive regular season games on the road, and have gone 17 unbeaten away from Allianz Stadium. Heading to Western Australia the Sky Blues will be looking to stretch their record at a venue where they managed a clean sweep last season. However, this time around the Sky Blues travel across the country without the services of Marc Janko and Bernie Ibini, and in desperate need or more consistent performances up front. With Perth chasing a vital win of their own, the Sky Blues must be wary of Perth’s propensity to counter-attack or they could well see an end to their impressive away run.
