Three Key Talking Points – Brisbane Roar v Newcastle Jets

Brisbane Roar will be looking to continue their hot streak when they tackle the Newcastle Jets at Suncorp Stadium tonight. Can the Jets spring yet another surprise after their upset win over Melbourne City last week?

Newcastle’s win over Melbourne City

Last weekend Newcastle picked up the surprise result of the round with a 2-1 win over high-flyers Melbourne City. And while the win in itself was certainly unexpected, it was the visitors inability to finish that had punters stumped. Whether it was simply a bad day at the office for the visitors, or a brilliant defensive outing from the Jets, it will certainly be illustrated tonight as they face a Brisbane side who’ve managed seven goals in their last two outings, and conceded a one.

Brisbane’s shot at outright first

After fellow front runners Western Sydney were held to a 1-1 draw against Melbourne Victory last round, and subsequently handed down a suspended three point sanction for poor fan behaviour, Brisbane Roar enter their round 19 clash in the driving seat for a chance at outright first. Given the Roar’s impressive home form this season (having won eight of their last ten home games) and unbeaten in four against the Jets, the Roar have every chance to end this weekend perched atop the ladder .

Jets track history in Queensland

From the visitor’s last three trips to Suncorp Stadium they’ve managed to leave with six points and two clean sheets, while in their earlier meeting this campaign a 71st minute equaliser from Ben Kantarovski saw the Jets pick up a share of the points. With history somewhat in their favour, and Kantarovski (alongside fellow midfielder Ryan Kitto) returning to the fray, Newcastle could well put up enough of a fight to trouble Brisbane once again.
