Melbourne City goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen has reflected on the development the A-League glamour club has shown after rising up the table throughout the season.

City looked frail in October, but they are now challenging for a top two position.

“I think the good thing for us, there’s been a progression I think all the way through the season, I think the things are starting fall into place now,” Sorensen said.

“I think we’ve got a good sense of how we want to play and our strengths, a lot more calmness around the place and I think you can see that in the games.

“We’re a lot more ruthless whereas earlier in the season it was a bit hit and miss at times. I think we found that base to build on and it just makes it easier as a team when everyone’s on the same page and moving in the right direction.

“When you get success, we’re close to the top of the table, there’s a lot of confidence as well which is good.”

Sitting second joint with Brisbane Roar on 41-points, City face ninth placed Wellington Phoenix at AAMI Park on Easter Monday.

They have enjoyed a three game winning streak, but ironically lost to the Phoenix 2-1 before their run began last month.

Sorensen conceded there is a mindset change when they are playing weaker opposition.

“There’s some games as a player, or as a team, you don’t need any firing up. Other games, on paper we’re the favourites and we have to win, there is a different dynamic,” he said.

“It’s easy to play in front of Melbourne Victory, 30000 people and nothing needs to be said. In other games it’s a little bit harder.

“That’s where professionalism comes in to not take anything for granted. We lost 2-1 a couple of weeks ago, there’s no excuse, and we’ve been warned about complacency.”

City come off from a 10-day rest defeating the Roar 3-1 last Friday night, however, their custodain would rather less time off the pitch.

“When things are going well you want to play games, again it is what it is and they adapt the schedules for training will be adjusted,” he said.

“With the 10-day rest we’ll do a more intense week than we would with five days. It doesn’t change that much, it’s the same rhythm coming into the game when we play.”
