Sydney FC have agreed to end the contract of 32-year-old defender Jacques Faty.

The announcement was made earlier this afternoon, in what is described as a “mutal agreement” between the player and club.

Faty made a total of 30 appearances in the sky blue kit after joining midway through 2014-15, scoring a crucial goal in a derby triumph against the Wanderers and also in a win over Wellington.

The Senegalese international was an integral figure in Sydney’s previous season, in which the team finished second on the A-League table and unsuccessfully faced-off against Melbourne Victory in the Grand Final.

After signing a new deal at the beginning of 2015-16 which would have lasted until next May, Faty is choosing to explore other opportunities.

“Jacques has given great service to the club and played an integral part in our record breaking season last year,” said Sky Blues head coach Graham Arnold.

“We thank him for the time he has given to Sydney FC and wish him all the best for the future.”

Sydney ended their 2015-16 domestic campaign in seventh place and will next play Urawa in the Asian Champions League on the 20th of April.
