Well, it’s quickly become one of the biggest events on the Australian sporting calendar and this weekend hostilities will resume in the Sydney Derby.

This week we took some time out to speak with two fans about the passionate clash and divide between the supporters.

Bay49 Wanderers representative, George Christofilos, provided us with the Western Sydney Wanderers angle, while spokesperson for The Cove, Grant Muir, delved into Sydney FC matters.

Here’s a Q & A from both angles with a twist:

1. What’s your favourite Sydney derby clash of all-time?

Christofilos: 1st derby away season 13/14, beating them in front of a packed house where we brought all the noise and the legendary Ono scoring was the cherry on top.

Muir: The 4-3 win. For two reasons, it was in their backyard. We were three goals up and we let them get three goals and Terry Antonis popped up with a beautiful goal and deflated the whole stadium bar our pocket!

2. How would you sum up opposition fans?

Christofilos: This is really easy to sum up in just one word – plastic.

Muir: Wannabes, try hards. They’re so desperate to be seen as somehow pure and superior and yet they’re supporting a club that was invented by the FFA.

3. Which current opposition player do you rate the most?

Christofilos: Tavares, dominant midfielder, their Yaya Toure.

Muir: Castelen, if he wasn’t part of such an agricultural set up and playing for a team with a bit more style he’d be a top shelf player.

4. What do you rate your season out of 10 so far?

Christofilos: 7, slow start but coming good. Andreu, Dimas, Nichols and Castelen have been linking very well.

Muir: 6, we haven’t even played very well yet either and six draws kills you. If we click before finals we can do a lot of damage.

5. Which areas of the pitch should your team look to strengthen?

Christofilos: Striker, our current “marquee” striker not showing any value whatsoever.

Muir: Up front. Goalscoring is our big problem. Matt Simon and Shane Smeltz hasn’t worked out.

6. What formation and starting XI should your team field this weekend?

Christofilos: No surprises with starting 11 from Popa, always a 4-2-3-1.

Muir: I’ll leave that to Graham Arnold because yet again the FFA, and their infinite wisdom, decided to schedule Olyroos matches right in the middle of the A-League season.

7. Score prediction for Saturday?

Christofilos: 2-0 to WSW with Nichols and Bridge on the scoresheet.

Muir: 3-2 to Sydney, with a winner in the 89th minute.

8. Where will your team finish come season’s end and where will the opposition finish?

Christofilos: 1st and for East Sydeny Football Club I reckon 4th.

Muir: 3rd and who cares about WSW as long as it’s lower than us.
