Ljajic proving to be a key member of Inter’s squad

Following on from an outstanding performance against relegation threatened Frosinone last weekend, the Serbian attacker turned in another diminutive and fluid display, this time against the might of Maurizio Sarri’s efficient Napoli side.

After club captain, and admittedly lacklustre, Mauro Icardi was substituted in order to make way for Alex Telles to cover the vacant left-back role following Nagatomo’s dismissal, Inter needed someone to assert himself on the game and be the creative force who could fashion chances on the break and swing the momentum back in the away side’s favour.

Step up, Ljajic.

The man on loan from AS Roma rarely put a foot wrong for the whole second half. His enthusiasm, work rate and tenacity complimented his obvious skill and mastery on the ball, as he drove at the Partenopei defence, instilling fear into those he came up against and forging opportunities through his own tireless running and ingenuity.

The Serbian’s efforts in the second half were rewarded, as he fired a low strike past Reina from just inside the box on his left foot, with three Napoli defenders unable to contain him.

Ljajic was the main attacking outlet for Inter on the night, and with similar performances in the near future the Nerazzurri may reclaim their attacking impetus.
