Queens Park Rangers cruised through the first round of the Capital One Cup beating Yeovil Town 3-0 at Huish Park last night.

QPR have had a less than impressive history in recent cup competitions, however, Chris Ramsey’s side went aganst that trend at Huish Park. First-half goals from Sebastian Polter and Jay Emmanuel Thomas put pressure on the hosts, while captain Nedum Onuoha sealed the victory in the 56th minute.

The impressive win came as Ramsey made several changes to the side that lost to Charlton Athletic on Saturday. Yeovil too had several fresh faces, as boss Paul Sturrock dealt with a number of injuries in his side.

Outside90’s Will Holden takes a look at the best individual performances on both sides of the pitch.

QPR

Robert Green – 6: Good match between the posts. Several good saves but nothing too challenging for the former England international.

Cole Kpekawa – 8: Very impressive performance from the 19-year-old. Looks dangerous going forward and provided a nice assist.

Grant Hall – 6: Solid debut for the former Spurs player. Looked particularly confident in the air.

Nedum Onuoha – 7: Great display from the Chief on his 100th Rangers appearance. Was more than capable at the back and managed to knock one home from eight yards out.

James Perch – 6: Showed his experience dealing with the Yeovil attack in a very physical match.

Michael Doughty – 6: Showed some good stamina throughout the 90 minutes. Took the game to Yeovil as much as possible.

Oscar Gobern – 5: Not an overly impressive debut. Did pass the ball well with Doughty and Gladwin.

Matt Phillips – 6: Looked more involved than he did on Saturday against Charlton. His pace on the wing was a real threat to the hosts.

Ben Gladwin – 6: A creative force in midfield. Substituted for the more defensive Henry in the second-half.

Jay Emmanuel Thomas – 7: An excellent performance capped-off with his first goal for the club. Was hungry for the ball and showed some nice skill.

Sebastian Polter – 7: Looked good on the ball. Showed his strength and grit for the first goal.

Substitutes

Karl Henry – 6: Professional exhibition from Henry. Kept possession well and provided more defensive cover.

Tyler Blackwood – 5: Saw little of the ball in the final 20 minutes as QPR slowed down the pace.

David Hoilett – 5: Showed signs of his talent with some menacing runs creating trouble. Shot just over shortly after his introduction.

Yeovil Town

Artur Krysiak – 5: Could have done better to keep out Polter, but the goalkeeper was left exposed twice more despite a five strong backline.

Nathan Smith – 6: One of Yeovil’s better players. Almost got on the scoresheet in the dying embers of the game.

Matt Dolan –5: Looked sharper in the second-half but failed to truly challenge Green in goal.

Stephen Arthurworrey – 4: Muscled off the ball by Polter for the opening goal. However, went close himself, heading into the woodwork from a corner in the second-half.

Jakub Sokolik – 5: Pretty solid for most of the match. The whole defence was caught out several times by QPR passes over the top.

Marc Laird – 5: Not a particularly compelling performance from the midfielder. Limped-off on the hour mark with a hamstring injury.

Shaun Jeffers – 4: Spectator for much of the game. Shots were from deeper in the midfield and not getting opportunities to the striker.

Iffy Allen – 5: Found it hard to get into the game. Was physically dominated by Perch on the right.

Alex Lacey – 4: Average display from the Yeovil man. Lack of experience showed against a determined opposition.

Harry Cornick – 5: Had a good shot saved by Green. Did not provide too many problems for a strong QPR defence though. Was moved deeper as Laird went off.

Connor Roberts – 5: Beaten too easily by Kpekawa in the build up to the opening goal. Nonetheless showed some good movement going forward in the second-half.

Substitutes

Mark Beck – 5: Showed good tenacity with some tough tackling. Set up a fierce shot for Dolan.

Wes Fogden – 4: Looked good when he came on for Allen but seemed frustrated as Rangers took control towards the end.

Jamie Burrows – 4: Replaced Laird in the second-half. Did not see much of the ball late on.
