A weakened Juventus side claimed maximum points at the San Siro, making Europa League qualification all the more difficult for Inter Milan leading into the final two games of the Serie A season.

Claudio Marchisio’s late penalty and a Alvaro Morata goal cancelled out Mauro Icardi’s opener as the Old Lady capped off a brilliant week with a win against fierce rival Inter Milan.

Icardi deflected a Marcelo Brozovic shot with his chest to turn it past Marco Storari in goal for Juventus within the opening 10 minutes of the match. Against the run of play, however, the Bianconeri hit back as Nemanja Vidic brought down Alessandro Matri inside the box, with Marchisio calmly dispatching from the spot.

It was midweek hero Morata, though, who again scored the decisive goal as he struck a low shot from the edge of the box, with Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic clumsily allowing the ball to roll over him.

Inter Milan

Samir Handanovic – 5.5: The Slovenian shot-stopper was having a reasonably good game until the late howler that allowed Morata to score the winner. Made a few smart saves in the first-half to deny the Spanish striker as well as Stefano Sturaro.

Danilo D’Ambrosio – 6: As always the right-back was energetic all game, running down the touchline and contributing both in attack and defence. Didn’t have a large impact on the game though, apart from nearly scoring in the 71st minute.

Andrea Ranocchia – 6: Largely had nothing to do in the first-half. When called upon in the second-half, he performed his defensive duties reasonably well.

Nemanja Vidic – 6: Defended resolutely throughout the game and won every aerial duel. Would receive a higher rating if not for giving away a penalty before half-time, as he showed a lack of pace in being unable to keep up with Matri.

Juan Jesus – 5.5: Gave away too many cheap fouls and was not able to counter the attacking threat Juve posed down the right.

Gary Medel – 7.5: Broke up Juventus attacks well and distributed the ball cleanly, rarely giving away possession. One of his best games for the Nerazzurri.

Marcelo Brozovic – 6.5: Was bright at times during the match and showed flashes of his ability. Was not a consistent threat throughout the game though.

Mateo Kovacic – 7: Was in and out of the game. When involved, however, displayed great creativity and awareness, cutting open the Bianconeri‘s defence on a few occasions.

Xherdan Shaqiri – 6.5: Like Brozovic, showed glimpses of his ability. Hit the crossbar in the first-half and was a menace at times.

Mauro Icardi – 7: Scored fortuitously inside 10 minutes. Linked up well with team mates and helped create chances in the first-half. Went missing after the break though.

Rodrigo Palacio – 6: Was very quiet. When on the ball, he rarely made a mistake, though he rarely contributed to Inter’s attack.

Subs

Yuto Nagatomo – 6.5: In his brief spell on the pitch he showed pace and trickery, proving a useful outlet in attack for the Nerazzurri.

Lukas Podolski – N/A

Assane Gnoukouri – N/A

Juventus

Marco Storari – 8: Made key saves throughout the game. The most notable of these included a double save in the 85th minute to keep out Palacio and Icardi.

Stephan Lichtsteiner – 6: Ran the line well as usual, was replaced before the hour in order to be fresh for the Coppa Italia final.

Andrea Barzagli – 6: Kept Palacio quiet, but not Icardi (in the first half at least). Was sometimes slow off the mark to shut players down.

Leonardo Bonucci – 6.5: Was similar to his defensive partner, though made some crucial interceptions.

Simone Padoin – 5.5: Did not utilise a rare chance in the first team. Was often beaten down the left and did not give much going forward.

Romulo – 5.5: Much like fellow fringe player Padoin, the former Hellas Verona man did not take his chance in the first team. Very quiet throughout the match.

Claudio Marchisio – 6: Another midfielder who was quiet for the Old Lady, apart from the penalty.

Roberto Pereyra – 6.5: Displayed energy and enthusiasm before being substituted in the 78th minute.

Alvaro Morata – 8: The Spaniard was a livewire throughout the entire match, using his pace to run at opposition defenders and testing Handanovic on several occasions before netting the winner. A great week for the Real Madrid youth product.

Alessandro Matri – 6: Contributed to Juve’s first goal as he beat Vidic for pace to create a chance out of nothing and earn his side a penalty. Was not involved in much else though.

Subs

Angelo Ogbonna – 6: Performed reasonably well in defence, not letting much past him.

Fernando Llorente – 5.5: Did not make much of an impact when brought on but held the ball up well.

Paul Pogba – 6.5: Was paramount to Morata scoring the winner, as he took three defenders with him to give the Spaniard space to get a shot off.
