Newcastle Jets were condemned to the A-League’s dreaded wooden spoon after suffering a 2-1 defeat at the hands of a youthful Brisbane Roar.
Kofi Danning scored with his first touch after coming off the bench, only for Edson Montano to equalise six minutes later. However, 20-year-old Lachlan Jackson popped up in the final minutes with the winning goal, giving Brisbane a boost before the finals series begins.
Brisbane Roar
Jamie Young – 8: Was given the captain’s armband and once again proved his worth with some fine saves.
George Lambadaridis – 6.5: Was given a torrid time by Enver Alivodic and will be glad to move away from the unnatural left-back position.
Lachlan Jackson – 7.5: Needlessly gave the ball away on a few occasions but already looks better for the experience.
Daniel Bowles – 7: Is beginning to look like a very dependable replacement centre-back.
Jerome Polenz – 7.5: Provided quality crosses, and looked dangerous moving forward.
Steven Lustica – 9: Controlled the midfield, hit the post and had an all-round outstanding game in midfield.
Adam Sarota – 7: Tired near the end, but gave it his all with some desperate defending and quality cover of the defence.
Dimitri Petratos – 8: Showed improvement but still lacked composure and an assured first touch.
Shannon Brady – 7: Dangerous on the wing, should have had a goal.
Jean Carlos Solorzano – 6: Proved once again that he is not the answer as a replacement striker, lacked composure, first touch and a quality finish.
Patrick Theodore – 6: Did not provide a lot in attack and was closed down well.
Substitutes
Kofi Danning – 7: Scored with his first touch and looked dangerous with his injection of speed late in the game.
Luke Pavlou – 6: Will look to imprive on the 15 minutes he was able to experience.
Abraham Yango – N/A: Did not have enough time to influence proceedings.

Newcastle Jets
Ben Kennedy – 8: Was outstanding in the first half and made nine saves throughout the game to keep Newcastle alive.
Lee Ki-je – 7: Looked to play an aggressive game and provided quality delivery from out wide.
Taylor Regan – 7: Was caught out of position on a few occasions but dealt with Solorzano well.
Daniel Mullen – 7: Will unfortunately be remembered for his miss of the season, rather than the solid game he played in defence.
Nick Cowburn – 6.5: Struggled with the Brisbane Roar attack but looks promising.
Mitch Cooper – 7: Has grown throughout the season but could not contain the Brisbane midfield.
Allan Welsh – 6.5: A similar assessment to Cooper. Could not contain the runs and play of the Roar midfield.
Jacob Pepper – 6.5: Could not provide the killer ball and was substituted after 70 minutes.
Andrew Hoole – 7.5: Looks to be a shrewd addition by Sydney FC with positive runs and a lot of confidence.
Edson Montano – 7: Well taken goal, provided a physical presence up front but the service was not good enough.
Enver Alivodic – 8.5: Was dangerous all night with his willingness to take on his defender and looks to be a promising find.
Substitutes
Sam Gallagher – N/A: Was not able to have an impact.
Travis Cooper – 6.5: Provided an assist for the goal with a well-won header.
Max Burgess – 6: Looked out of his depth when he came on.
