The 53rd instalment of the League Cup delivered a cinderella story that football fans yearn for.

Fourth-tier Bradford City defied all expectations by becoming the first club from that level of competition to make the final since 1962.

Along the journey, the Bantams completed the most remarkable of victories, overcoming the disappointment of a late Thomas Vermaelen equaliser to prevail on penalties against Premier League big boys Arsenal.

Somewhat ironically, it was the now-Barcelona man who missed the final penalty, handing Bradford a 3-2 shootout victory at Valley Parade.

Bradford swept aside Aston Villa in the semi-finals 3-1, setting up a date with the Welsh club that itself enjoyed an excellent run to Wembley under the tutelage elf Michael Laudrup, defeating Liverpool and Chelsea.

For Bradford, the final is where the dream ended, thrashed 5-0 by the Swans. Doubles from Jonathan De Guzman and Nathan Dyer secured Swansea their first piece of major silverware.

Dyer took home added honours, named as the competition’s best player.
