Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick believes Manchester United have a rare player on their hands in defender Eric Bailly.

The veteran midfielder spoke highly of the 22-year-old during an interview with MUTV reported via Squawka.

“Eric seems to really enjoy defending, which is not as common as it used to be,” said the 35-year-old in his interview with MUTV.

“I think defenders in general, around the league, have been concentrating more on playing with the ball. Eric is a true defender.”

“He played really well at Wembley and I am sure he is going to get better and better.”

The former Villarreal defender made an instant impact on his Premier League debut, picking up the Man of the Match award as United claimed a 3-1 away win against Bournemouth.

Chris Smalling, who last weekend returned from injury, could feature alongside the highly-rated defender away to Hull City on Saturday for the first time.

The £30 million man has made an impressive start to his United career and appears to be a pivotal player for the long-term future of the club.
