Poland grabbed their first ever win in the Euros in Nice with a 1-0 victory over Northern Ireland.

The White Eagles began on the front foot, putting pressure on the Northern Irish defence right from the outset.

The combination and movement of Polish strikers Arkadiusz Milik and Robert Lewandowski proved to be troublesome for the defenders who did well to go into the break without conceding.

But it only took six minutes from the restart for the Ajax hitman to power his side into the lead, after he finished off a slick passing move with a clinical finish.

Croatia have opened their Euro 2016 campaign in the best possible way, clinching a narrow 1-0 victory in a tight encounter with Turkey in Paris.

In an often cagey yet gripping encounter, either side struggled to break each other down, and it was left to Croatia’s star man to provide what would prove to be the difference.

Luka Modric’s stunning long-range drive settled the score, handing his team a vital opening win in a difficult Group D.

Germany kicked off their Euro 2016 campaign with a 2-0 win over Ukraine in Lille.

Joachim Low’s men unsurprisingly took the lead after Shkrodan Mustafi headed home a pinpoint free-kick from Toni Kroos.

However, Ukraine fought back in the closing stages of the first half and were unlucky not to equalise through a series of chances, most notably denied by a superb goal-line clearance from Jerome Boateng.

However, the need for an equaliser pushed Ukraine too far forward in the dying minutes and Germany pounced as Bastian Schweinsteiger finished off a clinical counter-attack to seal the points.
