Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard is close to signing a new long-term deal with the Premier League giants according to ESPN FC.

Their report claims that talks have been ongoing for a number of weeks and United believe that they can finalise the deal very soon.

Lingard, who scored the winning goal in the FA Cup final last season, has become a first-team regular over the past 12 months having been handed a number of opportunities by former manager Louis van Gaal.

The 23-year-old made a fine start to the season, scoring once again at Wembley with a fine solo effort as United won the first piece of silverware of the season in the form of the Community Shield.

A product of the famed Manchester United youth academy, Lingard will be hoping to rediscover form quickly having been withdrawn from the Manchester Derby at half time on the weekend.

In his short senior career, the midfielder has made 27 Premier League appearances scoring four goals and provided on assist.
