Melbourne Victory coach Kevin Muscat has stood firm stating the whole cohort has to accept responsibility in light of their position on the table

Sitting sixth, they were deflated in their 5-0 loss to Brisbane Roar last week, however, managed to salvage some pride in the Asian Champions League against Suwon Bluewings with good defensive efforts with a goalless draw.

Muscat reiterated his stance on talking about individuals.

“When things don’t go according to plan, it’s easy to point the finger. There was gaping holes in midfield a couple of games ago,” Muscat said.

“I’m never one to individualise when we’re successful, and I’m not going to do when we’re not doing well.

“The difference with one game to another when you stick and work together, the outcomes are so different.”

Victory take on the Newcastle Jets, who are in the unattractive part of the table, naturally more pressure amounts to Melbourne to pick up the points they so desperately need.

Muscat said they will welcome back Ollie Bozanic to the start after coming on for the final 10 minutes in the continental competition midweek.

Kosta Barbarouses returns after suspension, however, Nick Ansell will again miss out due to soreness.

The Victory boss says they are looking to replicate their performance against Suwon as well as scoring more goals.

“If we want to win something this year we have to win on Sunday afternoon. From that perspective we look forward to an almighty challenge,” he said.

“It’s not going to be an easy game. There’s still the possibility they’re clinging onto top six aspirations. It’s probably better both teams have got something to play for as well.

“The Brisbane game still doesn’t sit well with me and I don’t think it sits well with the players. We’ve had a bit more time between Champions League and A-League this time around.

“Without doubt, there was some clear indications of where we went wrong, very clear. We’ve identified those naturally, we spoke about them. We look to correct them on Sunday.”
