Melbourne City registered a resounding win 5-1 win against a struggling Perth Glory side, led by an outstanding performance from marquee Aaron Mooy.

A curling free kick from Socceroo Aaron Mooy found Erik Partaalu lurking in the box, who headed home the ball to put Melbourne City up in the opening ten minutes. Although buoyed by their early lead, the home side were still vulnerable on the counter attack.

However, any fears of an equaliser were allayed only minutes later, when John Van’t Schip’s men doubled their lead thanks to some more magic from Mooy. The midfielder found some space to launch a wonderful cross into the box, allowing Connor Chapman to knock home City’s second of the evening.

Perth Glory’s Richard Garcia forced a save from Sorenson shortly after, signalling that Perth were still on the hunt for a way back into the match. However, a sublime cross-field pass from Mooy found Corey Gameiro on the right wing, before the ball was cut back for Bruno Fornaroli who put it emphatically in the back of the net.

Perth pulled one back just before the conclusion of the first period, with a corner from Nebojsa Marinkovic headed in by Sidnei Sciola and giving the visitors a glimmer of hope.

Any of this hope was obliterated in the 52nd minute, when Harry Novillo smashed home a half volley to score City’s fourth of the clash.

Aryn Williams was shown a red card for a clumsy clip on Stefan Mauk in the box, conceding a penalty and leaving Perth Glory to play the remaining ten minutes with ten men. Man of the moment Mooy stepped up to the spot kick, coolly putting the ball past former teammate Ante Covic and into the bottom right corner.
