Real Madrid secured two precious away goals against Roma to virtually seal a passage through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
The first half saw a lack of goalmouth action, although it was Real who was controlling proceedings comfortably.
Marcelo played a clever pass down the left-flank to release Cristiano Ronaldo who cut inside and unleashed a fine deflected effort that nestled into the top corner.
It was all the away side deserved, after their sustained pressure following the half-time interval.

Roma reacted in the perfect fashion after going behind, with a host of well worked chances that had the away side’s defence scrambling and were denied a clear penalty for a carless challenge on Alessandro Florenzi.
They were made to pay on 86 minutes when substitute Jese scored a fine solo goal from long range to rub salt into Roma wounds.
The Italian outfit faces an uphill battle when they head to the Bernabeu for the second leg.
