Melbourne Victory cemented their position at the height of Australian football with a 2-0 win over Perth Glory to capture the FFA Cup last night.

Playing with a business-like efficiency, the result never looked in doubt for Kevin Muscat’s men and after an early goal was disallowed for offside, Oliver Bozanic found the breakthrough for the hosts just after the half-hour mark, on the end of some typically overwhelming team attacking play. Although Perth’s efforts could not be criticised by any means, a ruthless Melbourne outfit put their third trophy of the calendar year beyond doubt with a second-half goal from hitman Besart Berisha.

While the Victory faithful were able to celebrate some early season silverware, reactions after the game were largely marred by disappointment in the ticket prices for the match and in turn, the attendance. The FFA also received criticism for the ruling which saw Melbourne captain Carl Valeri unable to take part in the immediate celebrations with his teammates.
