England broke Wales’ hearts after a last-gasp winner from Daniel Sturridge in the 92nd minute earned the Three Lions a precious three points.
The atmosphere may have been raucous inside the stadium, although the football was anything but in the first half.
Ben Davies inadvertently handled the ball inside the area on 32 minutes only for the referee to wave away England’s strong appeals for a penalty.
After a subdued first period it was Wales who opened the scoring through their talisman Gareth Bale.
The Real Madrid star stuck a free-kick with plenty of power and venom, however it went almost directly at Joe Hart who made a complete howler and handed their opponents the impetus just before half time.
England introduced Daniel Sturridge and Jamie Vardy at half time for the ineffective duo of Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling and it worked to great effect.
Sturridge played in a flighted ball to the back post and Welsh captain Ashley Williams inadvertently headed the ball into the path of Vardy to finish from point-blank range.
Wales held firm under increased England pressure following the goal and looked on course for gritty point, only for Sturridge to fire a poacher’s finish at the near post to send England’s supporters into hysterics.

#ENGWAL Dominated both games, got the win we deserved, but it’s painful to watch and has to improve in the final third.

A game this low on quality just had to have a goal come from an error, didn’t it? #ENGWAL
