Adelaide United coach Guillermo Amor has given all the credit to his players with their current remarkable winning form.

United dramatically triumphed 1-0 over fierce rival Melbourne Victory away from home on Friday night, courtesy of Bruce Kamau’s 90th minute winner.

Amor was under heavy scrutiny and criticism earlier in the season, United were at the bottom after round eight and many were calling for the Barcelona legend to be sacked.

The Spaniard has praised his men, they currently sit third on 33 points and look in great nick going into the finals, Amor believes it is all down to habit.

“We have fantastic players with winning mentality, who work hard, every day and more and more,” Amor said.

“There’s no secret, it’s the work and belief that is possible.”

“We want to win, we don’t come to draw the game, we want to win and we are here to win. It’s all about winning mentality.”

Despite seven games remaining, Amor is keeping his feet firmly on the ground, with the goal to keep his results consistent heading into the finals.

United is only two points behind league leaders Brisbane Roar and only one point behind second place Western Sydney Wanderers.

“There’s no time to think about the table, or first position or playoffs, it’s not April or May, it’s February now,” he said.

“We have the mentality of always to think of the next game, now is good and to prepare for the next.

“My philosophy is ‘do more, so we can maintain this’ we are now very good, but now more and more.

“If you don’t work and tonight we say ‘we are the champions’, no, football is with humble work.”

Amor also was in awe of Kamau and new signing from Melbourne City Stefan Mauk.

The United boss said Mauk’s arrival was crucial for United’s structure.

“After Jimmy Jeggo left, Mauk arrived, he’s an important player and with our system with the number eight and 10,” he said.

“He’s young and he’s had little time here but tonight he played well.

“Bruce (Kamau) is hungry, is strong and he wants to win. He can play 30 minutes, he can play two minutes, and his mentality is very good and necessary for us.”
