Monchengladbach’s left side has flair and no finish.

For much of the game it appeared that if Gladbach were going to score, then it was going to be produced down the left-hand side. Oscar Wendt and Thorgan Hazard conspired to take apart the Koln defense on their own, but with all the flair to do so, they could not find a finish to match. Too often their final pass or lay-off would not find the man, or space and they would relinquish possession and allow counter-attacks as a result. Their heavy uses of the ball and the flank also contributed to Josip Drmic remaining isolated, as the Swiss striker continues to struggle with settling in at his new club. While Hazard is a very dangerous player to the opposition, Lucien Favre may be better off assigning his star man a new role, which may even need a team-wide shake-up of tactics.

The point of avoiding tinkering in a solid system has passed, and it is high time that Favre begins to make whole-hearted changes.
