West Brom remained positive

The visitors may have been instructed to sit back but they didn’t just let proceedings unfold relying on a lucky break. They commenced the first few minutes well before the home team started to dominate possession.

The Baggies fell behind to Henderson’s goal in the 21st minute, but responded nine minutes later when Craig Dawson capitalised on a Mignolet error.

On the brink of half-time it appeared that West Brom had hit the front, Craig Gardner’s free kick delivery was nodded in by Jonas Olsson. The goal was initially awarded by the referee but the assistant claimed it was offside and the decision was reversed – as the replays proved Olsson was offside.

It goes without saying how aggravated the Hawthorns outfit were by the decision, but once again it didn’t hinder the mindset of Tony Pulis and his men. In the second half West Brom were content to get lots of bodies behind the ball, making Liverpool’s task a lot harder.

In the 73rd minute Olsson caused the net to bulge again, this time the Swede’s goal stood. Christ Brunt’s corner met the head of Olsson who made no mistake. Since the 2011-12 season, Brunt has 17 assists from corners – the most from any player.

Salomon Rondon had the chance to seal the three points but he just pulled his effort wide. The front-man should have buried it, it proved costly come full-time.

Liverpool persistent

Obviously it wasn’t the ideal result for the Anfield outfit, but on the bright side a late goal to earn a point is significantly better than a home defeat.

The hosts struggled to breach the Baggies defensive wall which consisted of nine players for the vast duration of the enthralling stalemate.

Liverpool pushed for an equaliser in the latter stages of the clash, peppering the West Brom goal with a truck-load of attempts. A massive eight minutes of injury time was added on and the elusive goal was finally seized by substitute Divock Origi in the sixth minute of added time.

The exceptional resilience of Klopp’s side set up an intriguing climax, not once did the players drop their heads.
