West Bromwich Albion
Ben Foster – 7.5: Mopped up everything and only had a couple of important saves to make. Will be thankful for the resolute defence in front of him.
Craig Dawson – 5.5: Most of the play close to the byline transpired down the opposite flank.
Jonas Olsson – 8: His looping header helped on a corner, and meant Rondon could not miss the chance to open the scoring. Laid claim to the goal but the ball had not yet crossed the line fully.
James Chester – 4: Had a torrid time dealing with Lennon.
Jonny Evans – 7.5: Another of West Brom’s excellent defenders. Made a vital block to deny Barry’s goal-bound effort in the 79th minute.
Claudio Yacob – 9: Protected the back four superbly. Did what he had to do to break up play. Man of the match.
Darren Fletcher – 8: Rock-solid alongside Yacob. Stayed disciplined all day.
James McClean – 5: Did his fair share of defending, but like Chester, struggled to contain Lennon. Can consider himself somewhat lucky not to have been sent off.
Saido Berahino – 6: Did not have much to work with in an attacking sense, so it was vital he stayed disciplined defensively – and he did.
Stephane Sessegnon – 5.5: Like his fellow attackers, fed off scraps and had to be content with doing the defensive hard yards.
Salomon Rondon – 7: Was in the right place at the right time to bundle home Olsson’s header. Was isolated up front much of the time but his hold-up play was good when he received possession.
Substitutes
Chris Brunt – 6: Provided some extra mettle. His introduction coincided with Lennon quietening down.
Victor Anichebe – N/A: Did not see too much of the ball.
Sandro – N/A: Introduced late to chew up the clock.
