West Bromwich Albion have completed a dogged smash-and-grab at Goodison Park, defeating Everton 1-0.
Everton
Joel Robles – 5.5: Got caught out by Olsson’s tricky header. Aside from that, had little to do.
Seamus Coleman – 6.5: Played almost as a second striker in the first half. Found himself in the penalty box many a time and caused headaches.
Phil Jagielka – 6: Did his best to kick-start attacks by getting higher up the pitch. Not at fault for the goal.
Ramiro Funes Mori – 5.5: Was mostly solid and posed a tremendous threat int he air, however, he will be disappointed Olsson got in front of him to create Albion’s opener.
Bryan Oviedo – 6.5: Provided plenty of delivery, yet in most cases ended in a case of ‘close, but no cigar’.
James McCarthy – 6: Albion’s defensive structure and Barry’s control allowed him to provide an extra number in attack.
Gareth Barry – 6.5: Bossed the midfield. Made a cautionable yet crucial tackle on Berahino that stopped what might have been a lethal counter-attack.
Aaron Lennon – 7.5: Was easily Everton’s biggest threat. Caused Albion all kinds of headaches on the right and tracked back tirelessly.
Ross Barkley – 4.5: Came agonisingly close in the 37th minute, rattling Foster’s left post. Blew a major opportunity late by simply overthinking the strike.
Tom Cleverley – 5.5: Almost scored with a misguided cross that hit the post. Worked hard.
Romelu Lukaku – 4.5: Was not his best day. Struggled to find space among a highly congested Baggies defence.
Substitutes
Arouna Kone – 4: Did not make an impact.
Gerard Deulofeu – N/A: Tried to get involved but did not create anything major.
Leon Osman – N/A: Replaced McCarthy in an attacking move but it did not pay dividends.
