Everton

Joel Robles – 6: Looked a little careless at times but made a pair of important saves amid a positive spell from Villa.

Seamus Coleman – 6.5: Made plenty of forays forward but could not mind a killer ball. Earned an early mark after a solid outing.

Phil Jagielka – 5.5: Defended astutely for the most part but will be disappointed to have conceded a late goal.

Ramiro Funes Mori – 9: Easily dispatched of a free header in the fifth minute. Notched an assist for Lukaku’s third too. Attacking aside, was virtually faultless in his primary duties.

Bryan Oviedo – 6: Tidied up when required. In an attacking sense, most of the play went down the right.

James McCarthy – 6.5: Busy in midfield. Saw plenty of the ball but had to be on alert going the other way.

Gareth Barry – 7: A rock in midfield once more. Just about everything went through him.

Aaron Lennon – 7.5: Met Mirallas’ ball to double the lead. His pace was a threat all night.

Kevin Mirallas – 8: Two pinpoint assists that will do his chances of another start no harm. However, influence seemed to evaporate late.

Ross Barkley – 4.5: Did not threaten despite enjoying his share of the ball.

Romelu Lukaku – 7: Struggled to find space in dangerous areas, but made the most of lax defending at a corner to score a poacher’s goal.

Substitutes

John Stones – 3.5: Brought on to shut things down, but ironically, Everton conceded and looked casual after his introduction. Will be none too pleased to have allowed Gestede to beat him and Jagielka.

Leighton Baines – N/A: Not enough time to make an impact.

Oumar Niasse – N/A: Did not get the minutes to make a meaningful impression on debut, introduced with only minutes left.
