“We were called a small club yesterday. Today we are the biggest in Asia,” said Tony Popovic, head coach of the Western Sydney Wanderers in the aftermath of the 2014 Asian Champions League final.

From non-existence to continental success in just over two years. The question still remains – how, in the money-driven world of football did a fledgling club from Sydney’s West defy the odds to be crowned Kings of Asia?

Copa90 presenter and die-hard supporter of the Wanderers, Tatiyana Shaba brilliantly portrays the Cinderella story with a look at the path from uncertain beginnings to global success.

Giants of Asian football were  made to be mere stepping stones en route to success. Asian giants such as Guangzhou Evergrande, FC Seoul and Al-Hilal could not match the passion and intensity of this newly formed club, and the rest is history.

Not bad for a team tipped to fall at each hurdle.

See the colour that the supporters bring to each match and hear the music of La Banda, as the upstarts from Western Sydney not only topple Asia’s finest, but perhaps more importantly, unite a nation, if only for a moment.
