It has been the worst kept secret in Australian football, but Tim Cahill’s move to Melbourne City has all but been confirmed, ironically via a selfie that has surfaced on social media.

The photo surfaced late Wednesday evening, with Cahill pictured at Melbourne’s sister-club New York City’s training facility, with legends Andrea Pirlo, Frank Lampard and David Villa.

According to reports by the Herald Sun, Cahill will be officially announced by City tomorrow, expected to be on a two-year deal in the vicinity of $8 million.

Leaving Sydney to join Millwall in the late 1990s, Cahill has since gained a wealth of footballing experience at the highest levels – starring for Everton from 2004-2012 and also plying his trade for this likes of New York Red Bulls, Shanghai Shenhua and Hangzhou Greentown.

Known for his trademark brilliance with the Socceroos, images of Cahill leaping into the air to head home a cross and save the national team have become nearly too many to list.
