Central Coast Mariners promising defender Storm Roux has suffered a fractured fibula and ligament disruption, as result of a sickening injury against Melbourne City yesterday.

The club confirmed that Roux will undergo surgery in Sydney today.

The 23-year-old also dislocated his shoulder during the incident which the club’s medical staff will assess later in the week.

Roux had to be stretchered off after he fell awkwardly and taken immediately to hospital in the 58th minute of yesterday’s 4-1 loss to City.

Club physiotherapist Andrew Nealon accompanied Roux in hospital overnight and will travel to Sydney this morning for surgery on his right leg.

After the completion of surgery the Mariners will be able to determine how long Roux will be sidelined for as an extent of his injuries.

The right-back has been a mainstay of Tony Walmsley’s side this season, playing 20 matches and averaging 88 minutes per game.

The Central Coast Mariners are overwhelmed by the support shown to Roux from the AAMI Park crowd, the club’s supporters and the general football community.
