European commitments

Both clubs currently have European commitments. Leverkusen are in the Champions League while Augsburg are in the Europa League.

Bayer Leverkusen are in Group E which has been dubbed as one of the groups of death. The group also features European champions Barcelona, AS Roma and BATE Borisov. Leverkusen hit the ground running in their opening match when they defeated BATE 4-1, but they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Barcelona in the second match.

Both displays were impressive despite one resulting in defeat, pointing to encouraging signs for Leverkusen in a consistency sense.

Augsburg reside in Group L of the Europe League competition and sit last in their group after just one match. The opening match was against Spanish outfit Athletic Club which resulted in a 3-1 victory to the La Liga side.

On paper, Augsburg are favourites to escape the group parallel with Athletic Club. It is only early stages but their next performance must improve.

This Friday, Augsburg face Serbian side Partizan Belgrade, who will be full of confidence following their victory over Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar.

If Augsburg can step up to the plate and claim victory this Friday, it could prove to be a major confidence booster to their overall form.
