Borussia Monchengladbach’s 10-match league undefeated streak was brought to a violent end on Saturday as Bayer Leverkusen ran a five-goal bath at the BayArena.

A hat-trick from striker Javier Hernandez and a brace from fellow forward Stefan Kiesling saw Leverkusen turn a slim 1-0 advantage at half time into a rampaging onslaught in the second.

After been dumped out of the Champions League during the week this was a poor follow-up result for the visitors but for Leverkusen, it was the perfect way to get spirits back up and ready to head into the winter break.

Gladbach need to arrest this slide

Yes, they beat Bayern last weekend, but after scoring two goals during their clash with Manchester City in midweek, Gladbach have now conceded eight goals straight with no response. It would be a knee-jerk reaction to panic, however worrying for Andre Schubert was the lack of response from his team, despite its incredible run up until now.

Heading towards the winter break and just one match left for the first half of the season against Darmstadt, it is up to Schubert to make sure that his players continue to play with fire and desire. First they must clash with Werder Bremen in the DFP-Pokal this coming week, and a win there would do wonders for morale.
