Melbourne Victory striker Archie Thompson says he was content with what his team put in after their 0-0 draw to Suwon Bluewings in Tuesday nights AFC Asian Champions League match.

The Victory remain undefeated in the continental competition and after enduring a 5-0 shellacking to Brisbane Roar last Saturday night, Thompson said they ironed out those defensive woes.

“We needed a result last night, a win would have been great, but it was a better performance than what we gave in Brisbane which was the positive thing about it,” he said.

“It was a tight game, both teams were pretty disciplined to be honest, we pride ourselves on being structurally disciplined and not letting teams in easily.

“We probably did that last night, but didn’t create as many chances we would have liked, especially here at home.

“We got a tough couple of away games coming up, overall it was disappointing, but we got a point and we didn’t lose the game.”

Jesse Makarounas and Daniel Georgievski were among the best on ground in the goalless draw. With Makarounas as second choice, he made the most of his opportunity.

“Jesse hasn’t played much football, I thought he was solid last night,” Thompson said.

“Georgievski, another important player for us, very experienced, hasn’t played much football in the last couple of weeks. Overall it was a decent performance by everyone.”

Victory will look to bounce back in the A-League against Newcastle Jets on Sunday at AAMI Park, despite the difficulties surrounding the task of climbing the table.

Kevin Muscat’s side only just sit in a finals position on 33 points, the Jets are eight on 26 points and have look frail throughout season 2015-16.

“At home too, we got some tough games are still a possibility to make the top six, Perth and Sydney are knocking on the door,” Thompson said.

“We’re all clustered in those positions, we still have four games left, we can push higher up in the table.”
