Sunderland

Costel Pantilimon – 4: Had a tough evening with his defence offering no support.

Younes Kaboul – 1: Was poor all game and his defensive error lead to his side conceding a goal inside five minutes. Was also later being red carded, in what was a truly a dismal display

Billy Jones – 4: Had a tough afternoon dealing with the Bournemouth attack. Was on the verge of a red card on several occasions with clumsy fouls S

ebastian Coates – 3: Poor defending in the first-half contributed to his side trailing 2-0. Got better after the break, but was a average day for the Uruguayan.

Patrick van Aanholt – 5: Tried hard in making runs to get forward, but nothing was going right for Sunderland today.

Jeremain Lens – 5: Very little influence in the first=half, but as the game progressed was finding the ball more and looking dangerous. Lacked an end product.

Jordi Gomez – 3: No influence on the game playing as a holding-midfielder, evidently substituted at half-time for Jack Rodwell.

Yann M’Vila – 5: Controlled the midfield for Sunderland after a shaky opening 45 minutes.

Jermain Defoe – 5: Little service came his way, the only chance he did manufacture was hit it straight at the goalkeeper.

Ola Toivonen – 4: Worked hard for the entirety of the 90 minutes but nothing was going on target for the Black Cats, typified by his missed header from six-yards in the second-half which could have led to a goal.

Fabio Borini – 5: Harassed and pressed the opposition, but with little reward. Nearly scored a cracker to match that scored by Ritchie, but his long-range volley sailed agonisingly close over the bar.

Substitutes

Jack Rodwell –  5: After coming on just after half-time, he looked calm and assured playing as the deepest midfielder, shielding the back four.

Steven Fletcher – 4: His side was playing catch up after his arrival in the 68th minute. Worked hard to ensure he was in the box to take advantage of any opportunity, but there was no service.

Adam Johnson – 4: His side was lacking any real attacking threat and the result looked assured for Bournmouth by the time he was substituted on for Fabio Borini in the 72nd minute.
