Melbourne City this morning has announced the signing of Luke Brattan on loan from Manchester City and the extension of Anthony Caceres’ loan deal while seeing star player Aaron Mooy depart for Manchester City.

Mooy joined Melbourne City in mid-2014 and played 53 matches for the club, picking up the club’s player of the season award twice in the process.

His 2015-16 was a record breaking one, with the midfielder scoring 11 goals and contributing 21 assists as Melbourne City finished 4th in the league.

He is one of the three players involved in a flurry of dealings from Melbourne City this morning, as Luke Brattan and Anthony Caceres will join the club on loan from Manchester City with Mooy heading the other way.

Caceres’ deal will see his current loan extend through to the end of the 2016-17 season, having joined the club on loan in January, already making 11 appearances for the club in that time.

Brattan will also join the ranks of Melbourne City, having previously spent time on loan to Championship side Bolton Wanderers.

Brattan has previously played in the A-League for Brisbane Roar, where the midfielder made 91 appearances for the club before being signed by Manchester City in October 2015.

Brattan is the fifth signing by Melbourne City manager John van’t Schip in this off-season, with the manager noting: “Luke will be a fantastic addition to our squad; he has long been recognised as an impressive young talent in Australia, and we are looking forward to what he can bring to our midfield, particularly after his experience overseas.”

Melbourne City started their pre-season training on 27 June.
