A move abroad is not out of the question for Nick Fitzgerald

Mariners supporters will hate the tagline here, but the 23-year-old’s performance was excellent. Not only did he consistently find space for shooting opportunities throughout – he was able to link play between midfield and attack with aplomb.

Few players possess Fitzgerald’s energy off the ball, making the Mariners attacker a nightmare for opposition defenders. A correctly raised flag for offside denied him a second goal late in the game, but there is plenty more to come from this hugely promising talent.

More? You want more?

No, this is not a response to the Herald Sun’s Peter Rolfe’s ‘Fagin’ jibe concerning perceived crowd trouble.

This is an ode to the Central Coast Mariners and Melbourne City. You attacked with reckless abandon and it made for an absolutely brilliant contest.

It is an overused statement, but this match truly was a great advertisement for the A-League.
