Jamie Young – from hero to zero

Young has been Brisbane’s most inconsistent player since stepping in for long-time goalkeeper Michael Theo. Young had a promising start to the season but tonight’s match has arguably been his worst in a Brisbane shirt. After denying a number of City’s attempts on goal, many Brisbane fans would be forgiven for thinking that Young would work tirelessly to keep his clean sheet, but it was not to be. The 30-year-old embarrassed himself with a careless slip in the box, letting go of the ball in the process but his blushes were saved when Aaron Mooy missed the opportunity.

Young’s period of grace would not last long. In the opening minutes of the second half, he stupidly passed the ball to a defender looking in the opposite direction. The result: a rebound for Mooy to scoop up and assist the opening goal as his saved shot fell into the path of Novillo. Clint Bolton dubbed the error a coach-killer and it indeed was as Roar may have been able to take the three points had it not been for the blunder. Goalkeeping can be a thankless task at times, but Brisbane will be in for a tough season if Young persists with such careless mistakes.
