Adelaide United hve continued their winning ways, recording a 1-0 victory over the Newcastle Jets to maintain their spot in the top six of the A-League table.

Marcelo Carrusca’s tap in in the 42nd minute was enough for the Reds’ to ensure their undefeated run was extended to nine games.

In a contest which was even for the most part, both sides created plenty of chances but could not find the back of the net more often than not.

The Jets will be pleased that they did not suffer another huge loss but will feel as though they could have done better to get at least a point out of the game.

While the Reds’ have created a nice buffer between them and the Glory, making the finals spots appear all but wrapped up.

Adelaide continue A-League resurgence

Nine matches ago Adelaide were towards the bottom of the table and despite playing beautiful football, it was not reflected on the scoreline. However since then the inaugural FFA Cup champions have clicked and are undefeated since November 28, scoring 17 goals during that time and conceding only four.

Guillermo Amor’s men are now in a comfort zone, sitting seven points ahead of seventh-placed Perth Glory but a victory against Sydney FC next weekend could see them go as high as third position.

The form is reminiscent to the 2013-14 season, their first under Josep Gombau where Adelaide won just one of their first nine matches before finishing in sixth position.

Jets held scoreless again, but their defence improves

For the ninth time this season the Newcastle Jets were held scoreless by their opposition. The absence of David Carney would not have helped their attacking situation either. Still, they were able to create just as many chances as Adelaide but again the finishing held Newcastle back.

Former Adelaide attacker Ryan Kitto tried his best to assist Milos Trifunovic up front, but the latter, and his fellow foreign starter, the Brazilian Leonardo, were unable to find the back of the net.

This leaves Scott Miller’s men with just 13 goals so far this season, the lowest of every A-League team, seven behind second lowest Wellington Phoenix.

If Miller can take any positives out of his side’s performance it would be his side’s defence. Last week they were toothless, conceding six goals as they were torn apart by the Perth attack.

Scott Miller can take some positives

With an attacking line up featuring Marcelo Carrusca, Sergio Cirio, and Craig Goodwin it could have been a lot more than 1-0 if players such as Daniel Mullen, Lachlan Jackson, and Birighitti were not as strong and commanding in defence.
