Melbourne City

Thomas Sorensen – 6.5: Did not have a great deal of saves to make despite conceding one. Sweeping up kept him busy.

Connor Chapman – 5: Occupied the mantle of senior statesman at the back. May feel as though he could have done more to stop Henrique slipping through following Broich’s high ball.

Paulo Retre – 5.5: Unlocked the Roar defence minutes after half time with a beautiful looped pass to play in Fornaroli. Squandered possession a little but worked hard.

Jack Clisby – 6: Held his own in a sound back line.

Matthew Millar – 4: Seemed to feel the pressure from the off at right-back and was booked in the 17th minute after a prior foul. Ivan Franjic replaced him early in the second half.

Jacob Melling – 6: Played out of position at centre-back. Opened up a couple of times but can be pleased with his performance overall.

Erik Paartalu – 6.5: Rose high to force Young into an excellent reflex save 20 minutes in. Made a perfect last-ditch tackle to deny Broich an attempt on goal.

Aaron Mooy – 7: Uncharacteristically squandered a guilt-edged opportunity in the 21st minute after Young dramatically lost his footing. However, his saved effort allowed Novillo a tap-in and his set pieces were always a danger. Yet again the fulcrum of City’s play.

Harry Novillo – 6.5: Opened the scoring after knocking home Mooy’s saved effort and provided some life on the left-flank.

Corey Gameiro – 4: A very quiet evening from him. Biggest contribution was picking up a booking.

Bruno Fornaroli – 5: Was a little selfish at times, wasting opportunities to slide in team mates.

Substitutes

Ivan Franjic – N/A: Unable to create a great deal but picked up a yellow.

Stefan Mauk – N/A: Did not create a great deal.

David Williams – N/A: Similarly, did not threaten Young’s goal.
