Real Madrid claimed their 11th UEFA Champions League crown after a penalty shootout in front of a capacity San Siro crowd.
Football – a game of triumph and despair.
It was the second final between Madrid rivals Real and Atletico in three seasons, but once more, it was the white half of the Spanish capital that emerged victorious, leaving their cross-town rivals reeling.
Unlike the 2014 final in Lisbon, it was Real who struck first, through Sergio Ramos in the 15th minute. It took Atletico 65 minutes to restore parity through Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco, only after Antoine Griezmann fluffed his own chance from the penalty spot.
