Villarreal travelled to the Anoeta to face Real Sociedad but did not bring their poor away form as they secured the three points with a 2-0 victory overnight.

A goal in each half from Denis Suarez sealed it for the Yellow Submarine, who were put under pressure from La Real but never really looked like cracking.

A timid first-half from the home side gave the fans little to cheer about and they waited until the 20th minute to have their first shot on target. Engaged in a battle with Antonio Rukavina, it was winger Bruma who attempted to put his side in the lead. Cutting inside the fullback on his more favoured right-foot he curled a shot toward the far-post, but it was well saved by Alphonse Areola.

Seven minutes later and the away team took the lead through Suarez. Cedric Bakambu stole the ball from Elustondo and fed his winger, who was given far too much time to shoot and he placed the ball into the bottom corner.

The first chance of the second-half came from a set piece, surprisingly the first corner of the match. The ball was whipped in from the corner and it was Elustondo, who rose highest and drew top save from Areola who kept his clean sheet intact.

The Real Sociedad that played the second-half was markedly different from the one that stuttered early. Putting Villarreal under immense pressure but unable to break the Yellow Submarine down, it was the visitors who would score again and wrap up the points.

With Sociedad pushed up for a set piece trying to pull something back, the ball broke to Suarez inside his own half and the winger powered toward goal. Sociedad goalkeeper Rulli was so far out of position that his attempted slide tackle left the goal gapping and Suarez took his and his side’s tallies to two for the day.
