Same theory, different result

Not a whole lot changed in Villarreal’s away setup, except for the outcome as the Yellow Submarine finally triumphed on the road again.

Winless in their last five away fixtures Marcelino needed more from his team than he has been getting. Sent out in their more defensive minded 4-4-2 with the midfield partnership of Bruno and Tomas Pina, Villarreal were always going to be hard to break down and that proved to be the case.

What the team has struggled with has been at the other end of the field and while this was not a sparkling display from El Submarino Amarillo, it showed signs of improvement from their woeful trips to place like Las Palmas and Getafe.

The partnership of Bakambu and Soldado is beginning to really click into gear and they look as if they could trouble any team either home or away. The wingers were given a bit more freedom and Suarez exploited this with two well taken goals, while even Joanthon Dos Santos looked to be firmly on the front foot and could have easily had a penalty in the first-half thanks to his attacking forays.

While still clearly not as dynamic as when the team plays at home this victory could be vital for the simple fact of confidence returning on the road.

Suarez Makes Himself The First Choice Wide Man

Before this match Marcelino’s winger conundrum was one that would have caused him as many headaches as his team’s lengthy injury bill, but another standout performance from Suarez means he must be the first winger on the team sheet.

Suarez took his goals well and proved the main outlet for the away side. The former Barcelona man has finally seemed to settle in this side and his direct running caused the Sociedad back line all sorts of problems.

He still has much room for improvement, but after another good display Suarez must be selected ahead of the former Malaga wingers Samu Castillejo and Samuel Garcia, and youth graduate Nahuel Leiva.
