The honeymoon period for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp is officially over as the Reds were thrashed 3-0 by Watford at Vicarage Road on Sunday night.

A horrendous mistake from debutante goalkeeper Adam Bogdan gifted Nathan Ake an early goal, before the in-form Odion Ighalo doubled the lead in the first half. Liverpool failed to put in much of fight back as they lacked any real direction and were subsequently punished again, as Ighalo doubled his tally and sealed three points for Watford.

The victory puts the promoted Championship side a point adrift of European football and 1o behind fellow second tier graduates Leicester City at the top of the table, whereas the tale is beginning to look grimmer for the Reds who are stuck in mid-table and falling further off the pace. Liverpool are five points behind Tottenham in fourth and 14 off the summit.

Bogged start for Bogdan

With Simon Mignolet unavailable through injury Adam Bogdan was given his English Premier League debut and it could not have gotten off to a worst start for the Hungarian. The 27-year-old was faced with his first corner in the big-time and with little pressure he managed to get two hands on the ball, however he fumbled it in front of Nathan Ake who toed it home to give Watford an early lead.

There was some appeal that Ake kicked the ball out of Bogdan’s grasp and although it appeared as though the ball was touched while in possession of the Hungarian, there really is no excuse for a weak ball carry. To overcome an error like that you would have to dig deep mentally, unfortunately Bogdan’s woes deepened when Odion Ighalo doubled Watford’s lead not too long afterwards.
