Adelaide’s woeful record against Melbourne continues

The Victory consigned the Reds to a first ever defeat in the FFA Cup and simultaneously maintains Kevin Muscat’s unbeaten streak against the South Australians to seven matches in all competitions. In what was a dreadful performance defensively from the visitors, the attacking perspective improved after the main break with the likes of Carrusca and James Jeggo able to gain more possession of the ball. Nevertheless, like his predecessor Josep Gombau, new boss Guillermo Amor is yet to taste a win against their bitter rivals.

Only time will tell if anything will be learned from last night’s costly mistakes when the pair face-off in the season proper at Adelaide Oval in early October. Incidentally, the last time Adelaide mustered a victory versus the Victory was in February 2013, and you have to go back even further to January 2011 when they conquered the opponents on Melbourne soil.
