Football has never seen a nine-minute individual performance like we saw today, and probably will never do so for some time. It was looking pretty for Wolfsburg, when they took the lead through a Daniel Caliguri thunderbolt. Before the break, Josuha Guilavogui could have made it 2-0, following an uncharacteristic mistake from Manuel Neuer at the halfway line.

Simply put, that’s about as good as it got for Wolfsburg.

Enter substitute, Robert Lewandowski who turned in one of the most jaw-dropping striking cameos of all-time.

For a period of nine minutes the ball was either on his boot or in the back of the net – five times to be exact. His final goal was the best of the lot, a perfectly timed vertical volley as the Poland international scissored the ball into past a despondent Diego Benaglio from the edge of the box. Nothing could go wrong.
