Socceroo defender Bailey Wright says he needs to keep displaying consistency to ensure regular game time for the national team.

Wright has made the most of his chances playing in the green and gold, with the changes coach Ange Postecoglou has made to the setup in recent times.

He was given the chance over the aging Alex Wilkinson, who replaced the injured Matthew Spiranovic (calf strain) for the World Cup Qualifying games against Tajikistan (7-0) and Jordan (5-1).

Despite the minutes he received under Postecoglou, Wright says he is not getting used to it.

“You can’t be complacent at all, there’s always someone knocking on our door and someone who wants to take your spot,” Wright said.

“You have to take every game as it comes and make sure you work hard away from here as well and keep hold of your spot.

“From the moment I was first involved with the national team, it was about getting in early and finding out what the boss is about and knowing what was expected of me.

“From there on I was trying to push for my place, getting the shirt and I had to be patient and after a matter of time I managed to make an appearance and I’ve played quite a few regular games now.”

The Socceroos dealt with the Jordanians comfortably in their 5-1 win in Sydney, where much of the talk pregame was about the 2-0 loss the Australians suffered in the reverse fixture in Amman.

The Preston North End centre-back talked about the depth of the squad and how content the camp were with their performances.

“There was a bit of hype about this game, having a win and Jordan beat us at their place. We were confident in our game plan, we got the job done comfortably,” he said.

“These two games, we’ve looked spot on, you can see what we’re about we want to prove to people how we want to play, I think if you look at your two performances they were spot on.

“Day in and day out you’re in the camp, you’re constantly working on things and studying how the boss wants us to play.

“That’s not just people in the 11, it’s people who are on the bench, everyone plays their part and the team changes over the two game and it just goes to show whoever is given that shirt is ready to step in and do their job. Everyone’s up to speed and know what’s expected.”
